A plea to Mike Scioscia

Recommended Posts

Who was it that said "with guys like Pujols, Hamilton and Trout in our lineup we don't need to worry about pitching'.

i don't know but it looks as though the Angels have the 3rd highest OPS and third most runs scored in the AL playing in a pitchers park.

I think we as fans have the right to second guess Scioscia when he continues to make the same mistakes.  Yes, I am very happy with the win.  Let's be honest though, we were up 5 going into the 9th.  Continuing to put a pitcher in that cannot find the strike zone is beyond dumb.  The last thing you want to do is put runners on base via the base on balls.  At least make them swing the bat.  Giving free passes puts you in a situation where a good hitter comes up ala Joe Mauer, who can hit off of anyone.  6-1 in the 9th, at least put in Morin.

Why would you waste Morin on a 5 run lead?

When else would you waste him?  If its a close lead in the 8th, it's Jepsen.  If it's a save situation, it's Joe Smith.  Unless I missed Scioscia naming Morin the closer, then I wouldn't call it wasting.  Five run lead can quickly become a 2-3 run lead if relievers that can't hit the strike zone are put into the game.

It won't be long before this bites us in the ass.
