Rising & Falling of Angels Top Prospects

I appreciate the work you put into this so I don't want you to take this as a knock on your knowledge or effort you put into scouting or anything like that; I think you know I respect your knowledge of the minor league system. But it is incredibly obvious you don't like Borenstein, and I think part of that comes from your interaction with his brother, and this quote:

Borenstein went to AA and was completely overwhelmed

is just plain wrong. He had a .781 OPS, which is respectable in the Texas league, especially in that park. He was also on pace for about 15 HR. Hardly being "completely overwhelmed".

He has been pretty bad at AAA so far, but he's facing more advanced pitching. The park factors are more in his favor but he still has to face the best pitching he has ever faced. He has looked pretty decent in his last 10 games or so.

Actually, the whole Borenstein blurb seems like you have a personal vendetta against the guy. No mention of what he needs to do to improve like you have done with the other "Falling" prospects. It was basically just "See, I told you he wasn't very good!"

I'm sorry you guys feel that way, and I meant what I said, Borenstein just hasn't been that good this year.  He was batting .268 in AA, striking out more than once a game and not hitting for the signature power you'd come to expect from a LHB.  You say he was on pace to hit 15 HR's which is neither good or bad at that level, but the only place Dickey Stephens Park plays to favor hitters is in RF, as evidenced by Taylor Lindsey's HR's outburst last season.

Even if you think I personally don't like him as a prospect because of his brother, there's no denying that his numbers came crashing back down to earth this year in AA and even in AAA where the average fly ball leaves the park (though in Zach's defense he appears to be making the adjustments in AAA).  He's a good role player-prospect and will be a major leaguer someday, he's just not nearly as good as some fans (no mention of his brother) made him out to be.

You know the old saying, you can wish in one hand and _______ in the other and see which one is filled first.  Borenstein has major league talent, but that won't make him a star, no matter how much you want to buy into his Cal League stats.

Scott, the point is you could have said all of that without any of the personal stuff added and hyperbole added in.  You work hard on this, why ruin it with petty personal agendas?

Sorry you feel that way MT. I didn't think any of it was personal agenda when I was writing it, but if that's the way people feel I'll need to choose words more carefully.

I think regardless he's been underwhelming and his stock has fallen and was surprised by how many people saw the numbers and bought in. Prospects are hit and miss by nature, so I understand getting excited when something looks too good to be true. This happens every year in the Cal League with at least one or two players.
