Amazing Garrett Richards stat

Richards is easily the best starter on the team. Many of us thought he'd jump to #3 status this year, but who thought he'd be this good, this quickly? Anyhow, in hindsight it isn't entirely unexpected. Richards always had the stuff and just needed the "glue" to hold it altogether. It just all came into place for him.

Hopefully Skaggs will take a step forward next year, and the two will be our 1-2 starters for the next half decade.

Until he's not walking close to 4 batters per 9 IP, I don't think he can be considered higher than a #3.

Exclude that mess of a game in Oakland and Richards has a 2.34 ERA.

Sounds like an ace to me.

But you can't exclude that mess of a game. It's a legitimate part of his season totals.

Nonetheless, his ERA is more than solid... but it's going to be hard to keep it that low with the amount of baserunners he allows because of the walk.

And its a necessary part of his growth. He's been better post that game than prior to it!

Yep. Basically every top pitcher would look a lot better on paper if you threw out their worst game from their stats.

He's not giving up a lot of hits due to his nasty stuff, which helps him get by just fine despite a BB/9 that's close to 4.

His season kind of reminds me of vintage Carlos Zambrano. He'd walk guys but he struck out a lot and dydnt give up many hits, allowing him to post really good ERA totals
