Frieri sits around 94-95. Walden throws hard I'll grant you that, but that pen was more of a mess than this pen. Who else could have closed then? I like Morin and would rather see him close than Frieri, but it's not like Morin is a finished product. Smith should be closing and if he's not available then Morin and Jepsen should be in there. I also think Cam will be back by the end of the year and be more effective, less nervous.

He has indeed done so. A little in 2013 and more so in 2014 in the minors.

Here are the minor league numbers since 2013, as he mainly was a setup man in 2012. I even forgot how many saves he had in 2013.

2013: 56 appearances, 23 saves between high-A and double AA

2014: 9 appearances, 5 saves

There's never an excuse to use Kevin Jepsen in the 9th inning with a one-run lead.  I don't care if everyone on the staff is on the shelf, I still wouldn't let him near a 9th inning lead, or an 8th inning lead for that matter.

Here's just an interesting fact that Tim Mead dropped on us yesterday.  Who, among all Angels relievers (all time including Percival and Frankie) has the highest save percentage?  The answer is Ernesto Frieri.

 

Of course what it all comes down to is what have you done for me lately, and the fact that expectations are far higher today than they were in most past years in the club's history.

 

We need to get Ernie fixed, so at least he can help our setup needs.

I remember Mead saying that Smith was the closer and Jepsen/Morin will be the set up men. In that night's game, Smith was unavailable to pitch due to an  injury. So Jepsen pitched the 9th and Morin pitched the 10th. Tim Mead never tells a lie.

just goes to show you how save percentage can be misleading. same as trading for a pitcher because he had 40 saves the year prior.
