I think the fact that Oakland is six games up and threatening to pull away had something to do with the timing of this.

 

The wild card is not a sure thing, with 4-6 teams right behind us.

 

We can win this division if we field a good team every night.

Blanton was of course the biggest mistake of these four. He was outrageously over paid and we over committed with a two year deal. The other three weren't big dollars and didn't look to be horrible moves at the time. In fact if Raul were on last years pace we would probably be looking back at Oakland. If ( big word "if") Madsen and Burnett came back to career averages they would have been steals. As fans we had zero connection with Madsen. My heart breaks for Burnett after all of his hard work to have his arm fail him like that. And face it our mutual respect for Raul is for all the classy ass kickings he gave us as members of other teams. And Owen was a disappointment from the announcement of his two year deal. He sucked for the Dodgers the Phil's immediately before coming to the Angels. I actually see only one truly bad move out of these four mentioned. The others were just risks that didn't pan out.

But better late than never, I guess.

No I don't necessarily agree. He had less than 200 PA this year. They have him roughly a third of a seasons at bats to see if he had anything left. They did right by him and I'm fine with that.

I wish Raul the best, as he's a great guy by all accounts. I'm happy for Cron and Green though. They've performed well enough to earn more playing time, and now they should get it.
