Here's a screwy stat. Angel pitchers have allowed fewer hits than any team in baseball. Oakland is 4th.

 

It's the walks that are hurting us. We're 27th in that category.

Walks have been a problem since the Butcher era started. This is an organizational problem as well. We have beaten the Butcher problem to death. It is long past time for a change.

Our relievers often seem very tentative on the mound. They work slowly, and when they get ahead of a hitter, start to nibble. I don't know how many times a reliever has gone 0-2 or 1-2 to a hitter and then walked them. It's very frustrating.

 

Does the coaching have nothing to do with this?

He had been great the last 2 seasons though, so it's not like he came out of nowhere this year

This happens so often with so many pitchers that it is hard to believe that we have just chosen a bunch of guys who can't throw strikes. Somewhere along the way you need a coach who identifies and fixes something. We don't have that.
