Yeah, no one like say Bartolo Colon in 2005 could win a Cy Young with the Angels.

And quite honestly Bartolo probably wasn't even the best pitcher in the league in 2005, so there's that.

He's been great but there's already a sizable gap between Felix/Tanaka/Darvish and Garrett Richards. I doubt he'll end up in the discussion.

Come on, get over it. As was said, Richards has been very good but Tanaka, Felix, and Darvish are on a different level.

I'm just elated that Richards is at the level he's reached currently. Weaver sure hasn't 'been so far, save for a stretch of 6 to 7 starts.

I am too. He's exceeded expectations and come into his own as the best starter on the team.

 

It is time to accept the fact that Weaver is no longer an ace. He really looks like a #3 to me with occasional flashes of his old #1-2 self. Maybe he's a "#2.5" like Wilson.

I am more and more convinced that the really good organizations---Braves, Cards, Rays---have a consistent stream of arms coming up....easier said than done but it's the key to success. Richards is the first starter we've produced since Weaver. Sadly, I guess Adenhart would have been another. We haven't produced a solid reliever since KRod.

As a fan, I find it best to steer clear of the accolades for players because it'll just result in disappointment.  Trout's been the best player in baseball for two years by a mile and he's never won an MVP award.  Aybar's playing out if his mind this year and he won't be an all-star.  Richards is the staff ace and probably one of the top 5 pitchers in the AL and he may or may not make the all-star team.  Heck, even CJ's numbers are borderline all-star worthy and most folks have completely forgot about him.

But ya, he is def behind the king, tanaka and yu. But hes getting there. I think in a year or two he can be a legit candidate and go on stretches where he goes 4-0 with a 1.7 era, 26 Ks that would propel him into the discussion.
