external hard drive help

Recommended Posts

My hubby had (notice past tense!) an apple laptop.  He also had an external hard drive that he put all his music on.  He used both iTunes and the regular apple programs to upload to the external hard drive.

He no longer has an apple.  He's actually using MY pc laptop.

Is there a way to transfer all that music over to the pc laptop???

I would hook it up and see how many files the PC can identify. Whatever you can see you can transfer. Depending upon the file format, you may need a file converter utility to listen to the files on PC. I don't really know much about how Apple partitions hard drives or how well PCs can read them.

Depends on the partition.  I know that I was able to use a USB on pc or mac.  But when I formatted the USB to Mac, I couldn't use it on the PC.  As Vegas said, plug the drive in, and see if the PC recognizes it.

Also, if it's on itunes, you can redownload them right?  or do they charge you per download?

We have iTunes on the pc laptop.. I was just mostly concerned that I couldn't transfer cause he put them on the external with the Mac..   This is all music that he has here on cd or album.  We have a record player that will connect to a laptop and make mp3s, so he put A LOT of music on that external..  And he didn't want to have to do that again..   He comes home next Sunday for 2 days, so we will hook it all up and see what happens.
