Albert Pujols looked poised for a breakout season, then the Angels got into the month of May, and now the nine-time All-Star first baseman is fighting himself all over again. Pujols entered Tuesday's contest against the A's batting .183 in his previous 30 games and sporting an overall .245/.303/.482 slash line that's hard for him to even look at.

Several years ago, I wrote a column for MoviePoopShoot.com (Kevin Smith's website).  It was called "Grand Delusions" (a play on delusions of grandeur and grand illusions, obviously), and was about would-be script writers who had no idea how ludicrous their pitches and ideas sounded.  After reading this article, it's clear that Pujols would have been a perfect candidate for the column, if I had done a baseball-themed week.

He has zero sense of the reality of today, and continues to live in the past.

I'm probably just crazy but wasn't Pujols a lot more humble in his younger days?  I hate to say this but he's thinking and sounding like the man who set the bar for arrogance:  Barry Bonds.

Bonds backed up his arrogance.

Well I hope he's right, but chances are even if he gets hot, he's more of a .280/.850 type than the .300+/.950+ type he seems to think he still is.

.280/.850--in the context of expectations and his paycheck--is a big disappointment, but .250/.750 is a total travesty.

Dude thinks he is Billy Hamilton apparently. Hamilton smoked that hit. Why in the world would you ever run through that stop sign?

He does this all of the time and gets gunned down every time. Scioscia should give him tomorrow night off, not even DH, and when they play again Albert should be batting 5th until he gets his head back into the game, not his mind games about how he is an All Star.

Won't happen because Scioscia is a pussy.

"That taught me a lot of things," Pujols said of his first season with the Angels. "It was crazy. I don't even want to think about it. There were times when I would go home by myself and think, 'Should I just pack my suitcase and go home?'"

Please tell me that he still considers this an option.

Wow, you guys can be real dicks. Criticize him for his numbers but to make fun of a dude who was hurting and missing his family is high on the douchenozzle scale.

In before, "He's rich so I don't feel bad for him!"

Please.

If he didn't want to leave St. louis he shouldn't have signed here. It's all ego with him. Signs with the team who offers him the most money even though he never wanted to leave in the first place. Runs through stop signs because he can't stand not being 'the guy' anymore.
