Orange County Register: Angels Frieri predicts victory against lucky A's

Recommended Posts

He quit throwing the curve two years ago. He never developed any control with it in the first place and went with a slider instead. He also doesn't throw a knuckleball in case your wondering.

He doesn't have to be Mike Trout to have the same attitude that he can beat anyone.

Like I said, talk is cheap, he has to do it on the filed, and he hadn't been doing it this year(4.33 ERA)

Still not his go to pitch.

He doesn't throw the curve and uses the offspeed only about 6% of the time. So he has his fastball and slider as his two main pitches. Most closers have a limited number of pitch types they use simply because having control of their stuff in a short bullpen warm up isn't the same as a starter that has multiple innings to get into a groove. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.

My point is Frieri still doesn't trust his slider

First you said he didn't trust his curveball, which he doesn't throw. Now you want to change the argument to his slider and it really doesn't matter since he uses the movement on his fastball as his out pitch and the slider and offspeed are only show me pitches.

Your argument is as valid as saying Mariano Rivera never trusted his fastball because all he threw was cutters.

ERRR I said breaking ball, not curveball

I'm not worried about his slider or curveball. I'm worried about the 95 mph fastball straight down the middle he served up to Jaso that blew the game on April 14th. Calling the A's lucky is just ignorant. I guess he hasn't been paying attention to the AL West standings the past 2 seasons.

Yeah, the second week of the season was like, yesterday.

To some people.

7 HR allowed in 27 IP, proving that his out pitch didn't work very well this year

and many times this year, he didn't even bother to throw his show me pitch, FB and FB only.

You may want to talk to Ianetta and Conger about pitch choices and he is throwing more sliders (breaking balls) and changeups than the last two years as an Angel. It's not a matter of confidence.

Look on the bright side -- those guys are still so pissed off at Machado they aren't even going to worry with anything Frieri says.
