The thing is, that I would say only 10% of players drafted actually make it to the Major League level.  So while we are drafting a ton of pitchers, only a few will make progress through the system completely.  And if we get lucky, and have a glut of pitching, all the better.  Because right now, average pitching is worth more than average position players.

So we are drafting a ton of pitchers the last two years. That's neat and all but where are all of these guys going to pitch??

The attrition rate of pitchers is pretty huge.   Our system lacked pitching.

Is there a better more sought after commodity than young cost controlled pitching?

I just mean in the minors. We only have so many teams within the organization so only 5 rotation spots each team yet it seems like we have drafted 15 starting pitchers in the last two drafts. Granted I don't know a lot about our lower minor league teams, it just seems like we wouldn't have spots open

Some will go to Orem....some will go to the Arizona fall league...the more advanced guys will go to single A...some will be moved to the bullpen by next year (or down the road)...some will (unfortunately) get injured (TJS). It'll all sort itself out and the cream will eventually rise to the top

Well, they can do tandem rotations....  In fact the Angels did that early in the Stoneman years.   It's a concept where two pitchers are slated to pitch on certain days -- one goes 5 the other goes 4 and the lesser SP is weeded out that way.   The A's among other teams have done that from time to time.

Astros are currently doing it, I believe

I think you are right.   it's long been considered a very good way to create competition and see who has any chance at being a starter --  Krod, Shields, Santana, all pitched in tandem rotations.  The other thing the Angels did during the Stoneman era was limit the number of breaking balls guys threw -- forcing them to learn how to trust their FBs and work on their change-ups.

The Angels have plenty of pitching, they draft pitchers like it's going out of style every year. It's a matter of whether or not they have quality pitching and that's where the Angels struggle.

Roth looks great but lacks projectability. Sappington has the projection but took a step back this year, can't find the plate. McGowin has all it takes but he's going under the knife. Clevinger is searching. Morris, Smith and Cooney have all been solid but all 3 look like back end starter types.

The ones that may be worth getting excited about like Hunter Green, Ricardo Sanchez, Gatto and now Newcomb are all years away from the big leagues. Newcomb obviously has the shortest path and even then you're probably not seeing him take over a rotation spot permanently until at least 2017.
