Wade LeBlanc has been called up by #Angels. No announcement of corresponding move, but bullpen was spent after 13-inning game last night.

He becomes the 39th different player used by the team this year, I hope he can contribute a little something.

I thought we might see a move like this today, although I thought it might be Santiago. So we will see someone like Morin (not in favor of this) sent down. Or will we see someone released? Also was LeBlanc on the 40 man roster already?

Why on earth? I hope we didn't send someone decent down for this guy.  He couldn't even pitch well in PETCO.

The why on earth is because we need some relief for today when all of our relief pitchers minus Kohn pitched yesterday and our two main guys (Frieri and Smith) pitched for two innings each. He is basically insurance.

Oddly enough, his middle name is actually Matthew, so Sosh was technically correct...

Unfortunately, his career major league numbers are garbage (1.44 WHIP, 4.51 ERA, etc.).

 

Again, though, hopefully he'll never even be used.

I'm not at the park today, but a few things I can assume....

The Angels, I believe, had an open 40-man spot when Josh Wall got claimed.

They needed someone who could pitch 3-4 innings if things go South today the pen is spent. LeBlanc was pitching the best down there. I assume he's there to sit in the bullpen today. If he's not needed (and he probably won't be, because Garrett Richards is facing the poor-hitting Royals), then LeBlanc can start Thursday.

If LeBlanc is needed for 1-2 innings, he can probably still start on Thursday.

If he's needed for 3 or more (highly unlikely, the Royals), then Santiago can simply be scratched from tonight's start for SLC or he can just pitch an inning or two, so he can start Thursday.

If LeBlanc starts Thursday, by the time his spot comes up again they'd have a choice of him, Santiago or Shoemaker.

2 ER in 20 innings is pretty good for the PCL, much better than Shoemaker had done, so I wouldn't be stressed about this.
