Orange County Register: Angels Afterthoughts: Weaver feels fantastic

That's good to hear, but what isn't good to hear is that his fastball velocity is down again this year: 85.5 from 86.5 last year, 87.8 in 2012, 89.1 in 2011, and 89.9 in 2010. Not an encouraging trajectory.

Avg velocity on his 4-seamer last night was 88.04

he was 85 his first couple of starts last year and then got injured.  when he came back, he was 86 for a few starts and worked up to 87-88.  Point is, I don't think it's fair to say he's lost velocity this year as of yet.

Interestingly, he was 88-90 pretty consistently in 2012 until late july of 2012 where he dropped to 87.  Then he had one start in August where he was 89 and he's been in the 85-87 range ever since.

I know he'd love to throw harder, but a bit of his lack of velocity is somewhat purposeful in that he can hit 90-91 when he needs to if he thinks it will be effective.
