Angels Official Website: Santiago wants another chance to start

Recommended Posts

It will be interesting to see if they let Shoemaker go deeper into games.  He only threw 57 pitches yesterday.  Was that because they didn't have confidence in him for the third time thru the order?

Because if that's the case then why mess with Santiago and try to turn him into a fastball pitcher to get him deeper into game?

Just let him junkball nibble for 5 innings, give up his 2er and hand the game off.

I think that he could be a left handed relief specialist or an emergency starter. He was given the #3 or #4 spot and quickly slipped down to #5 but couldn't handle it. To my surprise Skaggs has emerged as a solid #4 (#2 or #3 on some MLB teams) while Santiago has disappointed. He had his chance.

I know we're fickle around here, but giving up on a guy with a 3.66 ERA in 34 major league starts in favor of a guy with 2 major league starts makes me scratch my head.  Santiago's peripherals definitely indicate some regression on that ERA, but he deserves a lot more leeway before declaring him unfit to start.

Nobody is giving him up, it just he has to earn his way back to starting again.

I agree with Doc. They have him pitching different than he did in Chicago.

He's also pitched well, he just has the bad inning or can't put it all together the whole game...much like my golf game.

The good thing about having the rotation do so well (and players talk about this) is that it makes the individuals want to step up their own game and improve...no different here.

To give up on him is foolish.

He better want to start again. As long as Shoey, pitches well I want him in there, because if Hector can pitch out of the pen then we are a better team.

Right on, Strad. Santiago pitching well out of the pen as the long man is very important and vital. He is 0 and 4 as a starter, the team can't afford that. He can pitch well and fill an important need. There is no shame in that.

And I want a toilet made out of solid gold but it's just not in the cards is it?

Well, you could put the money you would have spent building a house to enclose that toilet into a project to buy a very small plot of land and a golden toilet, and let your ass whistle in the wind.
