How do you celebrate this fine day?  I definitely whip up some Mexican food (probably Carne Asada burritos tonight and chips with my homemade salsa. Of course some Margaritas.

We're getting Mexican food at work for lunch.  Other than that nothing since I avoid bars like the plague on Cinco De Mayo and St. Paddy's day.  Add in the fact that I'm still recovering from Saturday night (getting old sucks) and I'll be going home to relax once I'm done at work.

I was thinking a good nickname for Santiago might be "Cinco" since he's only good for about 5 innings.

 

Then when he pitches badly we can call him "Stinko."

Why do we celebrate this date?

It celebrates a battle in the French/Mexican war of repossession. Mexico defaulted on loans to France, the French decided to take Mexico. The Mexicans won one battle on May 5th and from there on out they have been celebrating.

Mexico lost the war. Later the French realized they won Mexico and subsequently gave it back.
