Too F'n Awesome...great ride by VE. When Calvin "not the sharpest knife in the drawer" Borel went out with the speed, you knew it would burn up. Told the people I was with that if CC didn't fall, it was all his.

Odds were too short for me to bet, with this field...maybe in 3 weeks I can figure some exotics that justify a risk..Just didn't see it in this race.

The story for me is that I'm a part of the Central Cal community...great to see some locals hitting it big, with down home humility.

Interesting to hear Coburn talk down at Churchill Downs, saying that they could learn something from the way he was treated in Baltimore. Hope he will be asked to expound on that statement, because he will probably be honest about it.

Gonna be a much tougher test in the Belmont, but this horse might just be the workin' mans horse destined to do it..

The "probables" and "will pays" are going to be a LOT more attractive...

A lot of bad stories about Chruchill Downs.  From the Oh we paid you too much.  But more importantly, Churchill wouldn't give a pass to guys like Ron Turcotte, and instead told him if he wanted to attend you should buy a ticket.  Turcotte was the jockey of Secretariat, one of the all time great triple crown winners.  Then there was the story about a foreign horse that was running in an undercard race.  The owners were going to fly out from Argentina to attend the race.  They were told if they wanted to attend, they had to buy tickets.

Churchill Downs is all fancy in the eyes of the public.  But underneath, they are a bunch of scumbags that hopefully will never ever get a Breeders Cup again.

Thanks for the links Gotbeer. I figured there had to be a story there, since he made such a point of it on National TV. I had read about the increased take-outs, and thought that was pretty arrogant at a time when major tracks are publicizing lowered take-outs on certain bets. I'm assuming that the CD group also owns the Twin Spires online betting?  Do they also control Keenland?

I noticed in the winners circle that Stronach (sp?) runs Pimlico. Don't they also run SA, and Los Al, where Chrome is stabled?

This is sounding like one ownership group calling out the other on being bad actors, which with the state of horse-racing these days is a good thing. Now I am starting to understand why the Breeders Cup has seemed to find a permanent home at Santa Anita.

Also.... I was wondering why they made public the tote overpay to Welker, and insinuating they wanted the money back. Huh? What kind of PR move is that? Glad Turcott complained openly about his treatment, that is shameful.

That would be like telling Willie Mays to buy a ticket to the all star game, and one for his wheelchair too.

Off to see if DRF bothered to write anything about this..

stonach owns santa anita, gulfstream, pimlico, and looks like golden gate, portland meadows and laurel park.  They also own Xpressbet and HRTV.

Los Al is owned by I think Ed Allred.

Churchill Downs incorporated owns Hollywood park, Ellis Park, Calder, Arlington, Fairgrounds.  Fairgrounds is in risk of losing their Horse Racing and Casino license because Churchill has let it go to shit.  And pretty much gulfstream is manhandling Calder and taking away a lot of their dates.  We all know what happened to HP.

Not surprisingly, no articles at DRF about all this, but plenty in the "comment" section of some articles there..

Hey, how about that TRUE and VERY APPROPRIATE comment in the winner's circle, by the owner of the DAP connections . . . that NBC did not see coming?

Very worthy praise for the Pimlico management, and pure slam for the Churchill Downs demigods who are shameful in every way they conduct themselves.

For those of you who are unaware of the reckless conduct and poor management of the Churchill Downs crew, they DENIED Ron Turcotte paddock access on Derby day, because it was "inconvenient" to erect a wheelchair ramp for the legendary jockey.

DAP may have been making reference to other injustices they incurred at CD, but I am so glad Churchill Downs was denounced on prime time television.

Victor rode Chrome perfectly.  You watch that start, and he made sure that Chrome never got boxed in.  Was just a beautiful ride.  Hopefully the politicians in NY don't try and prevent Chrome from completing the crown.

Knocking two horses out of the way to claim his spot was a thing of beauty indeed. That move was the race. Had he bobbled even a little out of the gate, he wouldn't have been able to make that move.

There is already talk of NY not wanting to allow a breathing strip that Chrome has worn in every race..and Coburn threatening not to run if it isn't allowed....so it begins.

There was talk that I'll Have Another really didn't have an injury that would prevent him from running.  I'll Have Another also used breathing strips.  But more importantly, I'll have Another shipped to Belmont the day after the Preakness ended.  He settled in nicely.  Then the NY dumbass politicians decided that to protect the integrity of the race, all horses would need to go to a quaranteen barn to be monitored 24 hours a day a week before the race.  I'll Have Another's group said, why are we hearing this now, and not when we got here after we settled the horse in?  This was NY's racing commission, that aren't horsemen but made up of politicians way of controlling the race.  The horsemen said it was a nightmare to train, because you had a bunch of horses training at the same time in a small confined space.  Injuries were inevitable, and I think O'Neill made a mountain out of a molehill injury, to cost NY the horse that everyone wanted to see that year.

Some kind of  National Racing Board has been long talked about and imo, long needed. Maybe a Triple Crown winner will focus some emphasis on the need to unify the rules, get the multiple hands out of the pie, and prevent the kind of thing we saw in New Mexico.

Could it happen that Dumb Ass Partners can shed some real national attention on this subject?

These guys seem open to speaking their minds, since they aren't part of the "inner circle" of big breeding/ownership groups and big name trainers, etc.

Doubtful..but it would sure be nice. It's a shame that racing in the US can't be as popular as it is in places like Australia.

Such a great sport.

jim hill mentioned the breathing strip on his sports wrap up this afternoon without bothering to explain anything about it, how it works and why horses use it.

so is a breathing strip for a horse common? how does it work and why does chrome use one? sounds like they're legal just about everywhere but new york.

Breathing strips are the same thing, but bigger, that sports stars like football players have been using for years.  And they are used just about everywhere, and are technically legal according to the NY commission.  The stewards at Belmont have to approve their use.  Which is what they will be deciding on in 24-48 hours, since Chrome's trainer has formally submitted a request to use the strips to the Belmont stewarts.

And if they say no, get out your popcorn of the West Vs East don't want no west coast triple crown winner discussion.  Peta will have nothing on horse racing, if Chrome pulls out the Belmont due to this strip issue.

Not sure what the motivation would be/was for NY to have issue with the Breathing Strip. I'm not sure how to quantify it, but all I hear is how much the sport needs a triple crown winner. If I'm involved in the sport as an executive with any body, I want CC to win. I want him to go on and win the BC too. Everyone win$$$ if that happens, presumably.
