Tigers signing reliever Hanrahan

Recommended Posts

the pen needs middle relief help right now.  Bringing him in would accomplish a completely different goal ie help in the pen for a stretch run.  We've been down this road before.  It's gravel, uphill, and our Honda Setback doesn't have GPS

i've said all along that the angels needed to upgrade the bullpen. i still don't think that hanrahan was the answer for the angels. we need some young guns, diamond in the rough types. i would have passed on hanrahan myself, so i won't hold it against dipoto if he lights it up for the tigers.

Like with Frieri two years ago, only this time someone a little more consistent.

Who do we trade though to get that young reliever?

"...but he's not ready to pitch yet."

I am glad Dipoto ignored this opportunity to pay another pitcher to rehab on the Angels dime.

Absolutely! Let's keep our money going towards washed up Diamondbacks and Rockies where it belongs. Seriously though given our BP a million bucks for a former top closer would have been a good idea imo.

Are people really complaining that we didn't sign ANOTHER GUY coming back from an injury. Also, he walks a ton of batters which everyone hates.

But damn Dipoto for not signing him

this is a little over zealous, because i don't see where anyone is screaming at dipoto for not signing hanrahan. it looks like a pretty clear consensus to me.

interesting that you mention frieri because i think dipoto should go back to the well. the padres are last in baseball in nearly all offensive categories, they have plenty of pitching and are in dire need of offensive help. i'd be looking at snatching a major league reliever and a pitching prospect from them. the plus side is that the padres are both cheap and have historically no idea of how to evaluate an offensive player, so dipoto could really talk up some angel guys.

you could probably make an impact trade using a guy like green. although i like green; i like pitching more.

We did that last season and got zero innings out of him. We still have Burnett sucking up coin with no definite timetable. Angels are better off waiting for the trade deadline to pick up a player than waiting to see of another sore arm gets out if rehab by then. Edited by Eric Notti

The overwhelming consensus on Twitter was that the Tigers made a brilliant move and made out like bandits on the deal.

The Tigers could sign Antonio Alfonseca to be their closer right now and it would universally hailed. When you're a playoff team every move you make is brilliant, when you're not, every move is terrible. I remember the reaction when we made the Trumbo trade, every comment I read was about how we were idiots for giving him up.

That was outside this board right?

I know about 90% of this board loved that trade the second it was made.

Where were these comments?  Beause as far as I could tell nobody on AW.com was able to put their pants on for a good two weeks when that went down.
