Never thought that I would go to a major league AL game and see 11 eleven players in the two lineups batting under .200. It was good to get the win tonight as I thought I was bringing the team bad luck as I also went to the three ass kickings last week. Thanks JB and the bullpen for finally giving us a home win.

The Astros/Rangers game also had 11 players below the Mendoza line -- Prince Fielder has a SLG% below the Mendoza line.

It it weren't April, it might be more of an oddity.

What does this even mean? Most players press and struggle during the season and it doesn't really matter when it happens.

A ton of good players are sucking right now while Alexei Ramirez leads the majors with a .429 batting average.

What part of my saying it's April don't you understand?   Can you ever keep from being homer long enough to actually try to understand what the hell you are responding to?   Jesus Christ man, nobody is trying to tear down one of your precious idols, Fielder not slugging his weight is as prime of an example of why the numbers mean NOTHING as any.

Who is Mendoza and why does he have a line?

The Mendoza Line is an expression in baseball in the United States, deriving from the name of shortstop player Mario Mendoza, whose batting average is taken to define the threshold of incompetent hitting. The cutoff point is most often said to be .200,[1] and, when a position player's batting average falls below that level, the player is said to be "below the Mendoza Line".

Some notables who aren't exactly raking it so far:

Curtis Granderson, NYM - .135

B. J. Upton, ATL - .135

Pablo Sandoval, SF - .143

Prince Fielder, TEX - .150

Hunter Pence, SF - .156

Brian McCann, NYY - .162

Dan Uggla ATL - .162

Andrew McCutchen, PIT - .194

And the walking definition of futility, Jeff Mathis of the Miami Marlins at an even .200 - although this is in only five at-bats, so I am confident that with more playing time he can get it down below his career average of .195.

Some of our own:

Chris Iannetta - .111

David Freese - .147

Raul Ibanez - .194

At the time of his injury, Josh Hamilton was leading the AL in BA at .444.

Abnormally low and high BA's happen every spring, to every team. Until players get around 100 pa's, the averages are going to be skewed....because they are averages.

Geez, you'd think people that frequent this or any baseball MB would have had "small sample size" drilled into their lexicon.
