Michael Pineda blatantly cheating

Recommended Posts

So it's better for the overall game to see more 2-1 games than 10-9 games? Cheating is cheating. They are putting a foreign substance on the ball giving them a better grip, which gives them an advantage against the hitter. Because a hitter wears body armor doesn't make him hit a slider better.

Baseball is way better now than during the roid years. If you don't think the body armor helps hit a slider maybe you've never stood on top of the plate looking for pitches away against a pitcher who can throw 95. If you don't think maple bats make a difference then try to give a hitter an old white ash bat and send him to the plate.

Again... there is a rosin bag to keep the hand dry. Balls that come in from the umpire after a foul ball or the ball gets scuffed in the dirt are pre-treated and rubbed up for the pitcher to use. They aren't getting a baseball straight out of the package from a store. There is no need for pine tar or any other substance on a ball simply for control. It also lets them snap a slider and curve a LOT better making it more difficult for the hitter to make solid contact.

Bottom line, the rule states no foreign substance may be applied to a baseball at any time by a pitcher. If the league wants to change that rule, so be it. But as it stands now, it is against the rules.

Yes, and I was caught once. I was stopped by police and was told not to do it again. The police didn't just turn a blind eye and pretend like they didn't see it.

Look, if all 30 baseball managers don't care for the rule, then meet up with Joe Torre and the rest of the rules committee and amend the rule. Its that simple. Blatantly ignoring the rule is stupid.
