INJURY UPDATE - Don Baylor sustained a fractured right femur. The Halos batting coach will have surgery tomorrow.

Feel so bad for Baylor obviously no doubt but also feel bad for Vladdy. Vlad wouldn't hurt a fly now this will forever haunt him

Baylor was diagnosed in '03 with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer that weakens the bones. Also afflicted Mel Stottlemyre, among many others.

Then why was he squatting? Dang, that is the most bizarre injury I've seen. And it would only happen to the Angels. Hope he heals quick.

 

Anyone see the faces on Trout, Aybar, and someone else after it happened?  Mouths open, staring at home plate in disbelief.

Unfortunately with a "bird's eye view" (123 third row) this was really a very unpleasant situation to watch.  This is the sort of thing that you expect in the NFL when your leg gets caught and a very heavy player falls on it.  Really a bummer as Vladdy was as happy as a kid before it happened.

 

The Assistant Hitting Coach is Dave Hansen who played for the Dodgers and Seattle and served as hitting coach for both teams after some minor league hitting coaching for Arizona.  His track record as a coach is good and he lives in my hometown, San Clemente, but Baylor will be impossible to replace.

An extremely unpleasant situation and a huge lose to the team. I hope he gets past this soon, he will be missed.

From this view, you can see when the injury occurred, while trying to make that catch...

They probably shouldn't have let him take that catch. But hindsight is 20/20.
