Anonymous player poll: Trout voted best, Harper most overrated

Rookie of the year at 19 and two All Star appearences makes Harper a legitimate star. Fans voting in polls is just group opinion, kind of like the BBWA but with half the intelligence.

Harper's only "overrated" because he hasn't lit the world on fire yet like everyone thought he would, I think he's still one of the best young players in the game.

I don't think Harper is overrated at all.  In fact, due to this survey, I think he is underrated.  First name the comes to mind for overrated players, for me, is Cespedes.  A year ago, Hamilton could've taken the crown.

What Harper does this year will determine if he's overrated or not.

 

I just hope he stays healthy and plays a full season so there's no excuses if he has an average season.

excluding trout and kershaw, i'd take bryce over any other player today. if only for the long term view.

Stanton is the first one to come to mind. He has a lot of raw power but is fairly one-dimensional. I always hear people wanting to trade entire farms for him.

Why does his age matter?

 

He has a career .834 OPS as a corner OF.  That is above average.

Harper is more overhyped than overrated.  

 

Overrated I think fits more with guys like Dickey last year after he won his Cy.

I originally agreed with the more overhyped than overrated sentiment for Harper, but after watching MLB Network's Top 100 players in baseball "right now" earlier today, I now agree with the player poll.  MLB Network actually ranks him better than guys like Pedroia, Braun, and Verlander.

 

Harper, the 22nd best player in baseball??  Yeah, I can understand why his peers voted him most overrated.

That's hardly fair to Harper. The kid is just 21 years old and already is a very good hitter (a .272/.353/.481 through his first 257 games). If I were picking a franchise player going forward, he'd be on the short list in the #2-5 range.

Most overrated? Hard to say. Usually its a fan favorite by a certain team fan-base. We all have our over-rated players.

I think David Price is a bit overrated. He's a very good pitcher, but he just doesn't wow me like a Verlander or Felix or Darvish.

I think Yasiel Puig might be a bit overrated. He's very good, but I think he might be closer to Alfonso Soriano or Raul Mondesi than Vladimir Guerrero.

agreed on puig. Ive been saying he's raul mondesi for a while, though I think mondesi had better power. But mainly for his off the field stuff.

Maybe im biased, but I dont think puig is going to be near the player some have built him up to be. (Could be totally wrong, but thats my instinct)
