Jon Heyman reports Porcello & Turner available

He writes that Jacob Turner and Rick Porcello could be moved although he did say it's unlikely. What are your thoughts on the pitcher and what it would take to get either one?

I have no idea why he thinks the Tigers would move Porcello after they moved Fister this offseason.

That's what I was wondering. I remember Turner getting lit up as a Tiger but he is supposed to have #2,3 type stuff. Heyman says McCarthy and Cahill might be available but another trade with D-Backs seem unlikely.

Sounds like Heyman has nothing to report atm so he's just making his own stories so it looks like he's doing something.

Really?  I read only that he had a sore elbow, but that the MRI was clean.

Turner was only 20 when he was with the tigers.  Still only 22.  His walks and strikeouts could be better, but his control in the minors was pretty good

8.5 million...the very same amount owed to Joe Blanton this season.  Just sayin'.

 

Also, I asked about this months ago, was told the Angels kicked the tires on him just to see the asking price.  The Tigers are asking for a premium level prospect that's close the to show.  That's not the sort of deal I'd be pursuing.

I'd look at the out of option players who don't make their club. There are some decent depth pieces there:

Sig, that's what the Angels are betting on. They're still expected to round out their AAA rotation after ST concludes. Right now, they have Shoemaker, Roth, Thomas and Martinez.

I would wait until July and see how things work out. Then if a 3-5 starter is struggling but they are close to the top of the AL West, then I would consider pursuing someone via trade, but NOT giving up any more premium pitching prospects!
