Just saw a teaser for this. There is going to be a remake of the classic Carl Sagan astronomy series from the 1980s, probably my favorite PBS program of all time. Fox is going to run the new series. I'm not sure how much it is going to draw on the old series in terms of visuals or content, and I suppose that there will be some updating, to include discoveries made since the original was filmed. The series will be titled Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. Sagan's widow Ann Druyan, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson (who will fill Sagan's role as presenter) and producer Steven Soter (who was involved in the original series) are behind the project. Druyan and Seth MacFarlane will be executive producers.

Like the original, there will be 13 episodes. The first episode airs Sunday at 9:00 PM Eastern/Pacific.

Very good beginning, but the show immediately became stuck in an extended segment attacking the Catholic Church and its treatment of Giordano Bruno in 1600, with very bad comic-book type animation. The church cardinals look like evil figures from Star Wars. This segment has been going on for 20 minutes now. They're marching him off to be burned at the stake now. This is really bad TV.

Okay, finally it's over.

I was severely disappointed with it.  Deleted it halfway through.  Too much CGI.  Too much rambling commentary.  You could tell, this was a FOX production.

Felt the same exact way.  Watched it through but did fast forward through some parts.

I'll give it another episode or two to change my mind.

Why can't they make good shows without an agenda behind it? Thank God for sports.

Sorry, I thought the cartoons would be better.

I thought that the show started out strong, with some outstanding special effects on some of the space footage, then it became bogged down with the Bruno story. Absolutely HATED the use of cartoons, which Sagan would not have done. The original Cosmos would have used actors in period costumes in settings that at least looked authentic. I liked the sequence at the end in which Tyson produced Sagan's datebook from 1974-'75 and showed an appointment with him when he was a young student.
