Teaching guys to bunt is a useful skill. Sacrifice bunts are used too much but bunting for a hit is going to become a valuable tool. Left handed power guys need to learn it to beat the shift. Too many guys are unable to get a bunt down.

I'm not sure this is the case with what happened last night but it may have been. Down 3 in the ninth Brandon Moss came up and had the whole left side to get a bunt down. Sure he surrenders his chance for a home run but a solo shot there doesn't help any more than a walk since 2 guys behind him have to score too.

There will be plenty of times this year that the Angels are down 2 or 3 in the ninth and need baserunners. Being able to take the free base via the bunt will be invaluable. Another added benefit is that teams will shift less. Last night Conger bunted early. His next few ABs the shift wasn't as aggressive (at least from my vantage point) and he was able to get a hit through the less severe shift later in the game.
