Uganda's Anti Gay Legislation

The sponsor of the bill, MP David Bahati, insisted homosexuality was a "behaviour that can be learned and can be unlearned".

"Homosexuality is just bad behaviour, that should not be allowed in our society,"

They removed the death penalty from the law but first time offenders would receive 14 years in prison and a crime not to report gay people.

Arizona and Kansas are already drafting their own versions.

I just pointed it out.  Should a Christian wedding cake maker be forced to make a cake for a gay wedding?

Getting sued =/= being "forced"

The cake maker had every right to deny a customer for their beliefs. But that same customer has every right to take action if they feel wronged.

Getting sued is being forced.  Would not the threat of losing one's business make someone feel forced to do something?

hmmm, why should he/she have to?  Also, why would the gay couple want a wedding cake made by someone who doesn't even agree that they should be married?

I asked before, but how would they even know that the cake maker wouldn't support them before they refused?

Also no one is forcing them to do anything. They refused service to a customer because of their beliefs and that customer is taking action. Every decision a business makes could end up costing them their business. By there not being any laws against this sort of decision that business owner has the right to make that decision without legal consequences. The consequences in this case are that the customer chose to file a lawsuit. They have that right just as much as the business owner has the right to deny them.

So he was sued but did he lose the lawsuit?  People sue for all kinds of dumb shit that doesn't make it to law.

I don't know what happened with the suit nate.  But he had to hire a lawyer.  Small business owners don't have tons of money usually to hire lawyers.  Whatever the outcome I'm sure it still sucked.

I do agree the law is a full blown overreaction and is really stupid.  I see both Republican Senators are urging Brewer to veto the Arizona bill.

By the way, this thread is not about senile Senators from Arizona or homophobic cake makers. This is about Uganda and their gay population locking themselves in their homes fearing arrest.

Wait, are you saying that a thread on aw took a turn into a different direction?  Wow, that never, ever happens.  Who would of thunk it?

Often when you have a frivolous lawsuit the judge orders the person to pay the defendants lawyer fees.  Sorry but because someone got sued is not a reason to create a law.  I thought you were for less government?
