LA Times: Angels welcome a more subdued camp

Pitcher Jered Weaver says it's kind of different this spring without the distractions of having players who had just signed large contracts with the club, like Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton the last two years.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- There will be no shortage of marquee names when the Angels take the field for their first full-squad workout Wednesday. Mike Trout , American League most-valuable-player runner-up the last two years, will be in camp, as will three-time National League MVP Albert Pujols and 2010 AL MVP Josh Hamilton .

Just finished reading the Sam Miller article, which was encouraging. This one was a buzzkill.

Not sure what is most disturbing... the bunting cage... a focus on "situational hitting"... or the 200 creeps that showed up at Sky Harbor Airport to see Mike Trout.

FS79 will be on total meltdown as soon as he reads this thread.

I'm too worn out by this manager to melt down much anymore. All that stupid bunting and the contact play ad nauseam have taken the fight out of me. He will never stop what he's doing. Same old, same old for the duration. I've got to resign myself to it.

Plus my doctor told me it was bad for my heart to yell and throw things around the house every time Scioscia does something ridiculous.

I think Scioscia will manage the team until he dies at the age of 90, and then after that a Scioscia Magic 8 Ball will take over: Contact Play, Suicide Squeeze, Play The Vet, Play Mathis/Scioscia Descendent, Pull Pitcher Before Necessary, and Turn The Page.

'Will blanton be kept from pitching?'

Outlook not so good.

Am I the only one that likes small ball? I have no problem with bunting in the right situation.

Right situation is one thing, but he goes well beyond that.

Between over bunting, the contact play, and productive outs, one would swear that Scioscia came to us via the DeLorean from the 1960s and their low scoring games. Even with offenses declining, runs scored are still significantly higher than they were in the 1960s. Too much giving away outs is not a good thing in 2014.
