LA Times: Joe Blanton is no lock for Angels rotation

If we get the 2001-2010 Pujols, the 2010 Hamilton, the 2011-2012 Freese, and a thousand other things go right for the offense, who needs pitching?!

 

Short of that, we've got trouble.

 

I'd settle for the entire team repeating 2012 numbers.

Freese 3.8 WAR

Ibanez 0.5 WAR

Aybar 4.3 WAR

Iannetta 1.4 WAR

Calhoun -- Hopefully he can give us Trumbo's 2.7 WAR?

 

= 35.4 WAR from the hitters.

 

Hopefully they can get 10 from the pitchers and they be at 45 WAR which should equal 95 wins.

What is everyone's minimum requirement for Blanton to be a serviceable #5 starter, if necessary?

Mine would be a sub 5.00 ERA and sub 1.50 WHIP throughout the season and average 6 innings/start.

saw this headline and story in today's LA Times -- and geez.......pitchers and catchers just reported........first ST games are next week......and WOW, that headline makes the season seem like a long one already........OUCH.

Its 2014, we dont use wins to measure pitchers anymore.

Theres plenty of advanced metrics to show how shitty blanton was and why he went 2-14. We're supposed to use those.

I'd be more prone to look at Blantons advanced metrics if he wasn't 2-14. Since he had such an awful record do you really need to look at the other stats? I think if you had to go one step further into looking at his stats you could then peruse his ERA then quickly surmise that 2-14 seem about right.

Yeah I'm all about advanced metrics but I feel very comfortable saying that looking at Blanton's won-loss record is enough to know how bad he was. 

 

There probably aren't many pitchers in baseball history who actually pitched well with that kind of record.
