LA crews aim for largest continuous concrete pour

 

Crews began pouring concrete Saturday to lay the foundation for the tallest building to be constructed west of the Mississippi -- and they're hoping it's one for the history books.

 

The marathon concrete pour was expected to last 20 hours without interruption. The attempt will be verified by an official from Guinness World Records.

 

About 2,000 truckloads of concrete will be driven throughout the weekend to the construction site in downtown LA where a skyscraper called the New Wilshire Grand will be built.

That building will be awesome when it's completed. I'm glad LA finally tossed out the regulations to have a flat roof on all skyscrapers. They plan on having a bar and swimming pool near the top.

It took seven years to connect the East to the West at Promintary Point back in the 1800's. It is taking the Metro longer to go from Grand Central to Santa Monica.

A Los Angeles project laying the foundation for the tallest building west of the Mississippi broke the world record for the largest continuous concrete pour, a Guinness World Records adjudicator said Sunday.

 

Round-the-clock pouring started at 4:47 p.m. Saturday with 208 trucks making more than 2,100 trips and pouring 82 million pounds of concrete during an 18 ½-hour period, said Sean Rossall, a spokesman for the project building a skyscraper called the New Wilshire Grand. Ultimately, 21,200 cubic yards of concrete were poured by 11:30 a.m. Sunday, beating the existing record of 21,000 cubic yards set by The Venetian hotel in Las Vegas in 1999, Guinness World Records adjudicator Michael Empric said.
