AJ Burnett to the Phillies: 1 yr, $16 million

Man.... I don't get the Phillies at all.

What exactly is signing Burnett supposed to do for them?  They have to hope things break right just to leapfrog the Mets in the NL East, and yet they felt the need to spend 16 mil on Burnett.  I wonder if they gave him a no trade clause too, because the only way I can imagine he ends up being useful to them is if he brings back some talent at the deadline.

As disappointed as I am that the Angels haven't a veteran arm, I'm glad they aren't making moves just to make moves.

When I see the Phillies I see a team that reminds me very much of our own.

That's an exaggeration. The Phillies are a broken organization, and not even the Angels match their level of failure

the phillies are what this team could be in 2-3 years.  The Trumbo trade makes me confident we won't be.

No doubt....  The crazy part is the Angels would have to work a bit to equal what the Phillies have done.

The Phillies will have four everyday players 35 or older plus Ryan Howard at age 34.   For the Angels to match that they would have to re-sign Howie, Ianetta, and Aybar through 2019 and sign a free agent at least 34 years old.

Even nuttier...  4 of those 5 guys on the Phillies have at least two more years guaranteed.

This isn't all that bad now that I thought about it. The deal itself is fine. It's still a little odd that the Phillies did this but maybe they can flip him at the deadline. If his no trade clause is limited, there will be tons of interest.

At worst, the Phillies are a marginally better team and overpay a bit on a 1 year deal.
