Philadelphia basketball great Tom Gola dies

A basketball Hall of Famer, he won NIT and NCAA titles with La Salle, and an NBA championship with the old Philadelphia Warriors. A 5-time NBA All-Star.

 

A 6'6" forward who frequently played guard for La Salle, he collected an astounding 2,201 rebounds, an NCAA career record which stands to this day.

 

He coached for La Salle and later went into politics. Tom Gola died on January 26th at the age of 81. He never recovered from a bad fall 11 years ago.

Wow, John Wooden once called him the "greatest all-around basketball player" he had ever seen.

 

One of only two players to have at least 2,000 points and 2,000 rebounds in his college career.
