So, just found this link http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/top-100-prospects/all-time#2013 -- it basically tracks their top 100 lists since 1990 and their career stats.. Given all the fretting about the Angels lack of prospects in the top 100, it's fun to look at the actual numbers put up over the years.. It's neat to look back and see guys like Kotch, Mathis, Wood all ranked so highly and yet being completely outproduced by the guys in our system that weren't as highly ranked, or ranked at all.. Like Naps...

Angels rank in at number 4 behind the Redsox, A's and Rangers. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/texas-rangers-lineup-ranks-as-best-in-mlb-heading-into-2014-season?ymd=20140204&content_id=67423452&vkey=news_mlb Surprised to see 3 of the top 4 being AL West teams.

This new CBA seems to have really killed free agency for anyone but the "top tier" guys in many ways. Unless they are a true superstar, a la Hamilton, Pujols etc..., the qualifying offer/draft pick issue seems to be killing the market for the rest of the field. Its easy to say hey that declined the offer yada yada... and thats true i mean 14.1 mil for a lot of these guys is really more than they were worth in my opinion, but still.. theres just nothing apparently on a lot of guys that are not bad players.. just seemingly not worth losing a draft pick. Now i hear the mlbpa is looking into collusion again... who didnt see that coming... i wonder whos idea that little pie…

Freeman is entering his first year of arbitration. His contract basically paid him for last season's performance when he finished fifth in the NL MVP voting. His first two years weren't nearly as good. I bring this up only to show all the Trout extension people what the Braves paid for a young player to acquire 5 free agent years and all three arbitration years. The article I read says that even if you assume that he would've taken home $30 M for the three arbitration years, which is a high estimate, they paid an AAV of $21 M for his five free agent years. Is Freeman a $21M a year player? Maybe by the first free agent year, but they are certainly gambling on poten…

DOB: 10/7/88 (AZL-Angels/Inland Empire): 7-5, 3.84 ERA, 25 BBs, 85 Ks, 93.2 IP Acquired by the Angels in exchange for Vernon Wells, Kramer Sneed came to the Angels as a left-handed starter with a high K/9 rate that might play out in the Angels bullpen down the line. Drafted by the Yankees in the 32nd round of the 2010 draft, Sneed had not yet broken out of High-A ball by the start of the 2013 season. Sneed throws a low-90s fastball, a mid-80s slider and a plus-changeup that has become his go-to pitch. He has an odd grip on his changeup, holding it similar to a …

Prospect Profile: #28 Los Angeles Angels Sherman Johnson Bats: Left Throws: Right Height: 5’10â€ 180 lbs. DOB: 7/15/90 Burlington: .261/.371/.372 with 4 HRs and 14 SBs Inland Empire: .308/.367/.500 in 6 games Johnson is the prototypical leadoff hitter that the Angels could use in Anaheim right now to set the table for Mike Trout and the big boys. An excellent batting eye and understanding of what opposing pitchers want to do, Sherman reminds me a lot of former Angels' third baseman Chone Figgins. Like Figgins, Sherman has little power, but speed that can steal 30-40 bases a season, though he's still learning how to get good jumps off pitchers. When at Florida …

We are about one week away from pitchers and catchers reporting. I really do believe that this team has enough to win a World Championship. Jerry did a great job improving this team and now it's Sosh's turn to get it done. Here's to healthy season that is one to remember!

By Rob Goldman, AngelsWin.com Historical Writer - Yankee Stadium, August 20, 1992 Traveling in the minor leagues can be tough. As a player you endure long all-night bus rides and early-morning wakeup calls when you finally get to fly. It can be even tougher on the wives. In Edmonton, we flew to most of the cities we played in but our wives would have to pile in a car and make the trips on their own. It was on one such trip to Calgary on where Marci arrived just before game time only to find that I wasn’t in the lineup. I had some good news and bad news for her. Our manager Max Oliveras had informed me just before game time that I would not be playing that night be…

By Rob Goldman, AngelsWin.com Historical Writer - One of the toughest things about winning in World Series in 2002 was not being able to celebrate on the field with a player who had a tremendous influence on many of our lives. Gary DiSarcina was the heartbeat of the Angels teams in my early years. A natural leader, everyone looked to him for insight, direction, and when things needed firing up. Every team needs a guy who stirs things up once in a while and holds everyone accountable for their jobs. “Disarâ€ was a throwback of sorts who insisted that you appreciate the game by playing it the right way, not by showing people up. If you stepped out of that mold aro…

Bats: Right Throws: Right Height: 6’4â€ 230 lbs. Snyder Was named first team All-Sunshine State Conference in 2011 and 2012 and also first team All-Region by Daktronics, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and American Baseball Coaches Association. Snyder is a big, strong presence who possesses raw plus power, both in batting practice and in-game contests. Snyder hit 25 home runs (tied for 3rd in the Ca…

Introduction For the past two years, a word has been used to describe the Los Angeles Angels organization overall: Most scouts and other publications have described the Angels system as “thinâ€. AngelsWin.com would have to agree with that assessment, provided fans use the term correctly. For most scouts “thinâ€ means refers specifically to the number of high-impact players within the organization. For many publications, thin also refers to the number of high-draft prospects within the organization (which often may overlap with the number of high-impact prospects within the system). There is a difference between a system that is “thinâ€ and a system that is…

I was wondering if any baseball history buffs older than I could think of any huge breakout years in the 70's or 80's or before. Unfortunately I'm very skeptical about guys like Chris Davis and Jose Bautista who just blow up out of nowhere and have monster seasons. I just want to know if there were seasons like this before steroids became part of the conversation.

Looks like a classic case of supply and demand. When you win, more people want to see the winning product. People don't pay to see stars – they really pay to see winners. latimes.com/sports/dodgersnow/la-sp-dn-dodgers-raise-season-ticket-prices-140-percent-20140201,0,5118954.story
