By Grant Larsen, AngelsWin.com Baseball Columnist - The National League has delivered us many worthy performances for the MVP award this year. Looking through the data has helped me develop more questions than answers due to the extremely high level of play by individuals that are helping push their respective teams toward the playoffs. The Pittsburgh Pirates have already guaranteed a winning record for the first time in 2 decades, and have been led by Andrew McCutchen. The St. Louis Cardinals have put themselves on the doorstep of another division title in part because of the emergence of Matt Carpenter and the game management ski…

If I have the math right, it's now officially over. I hope Scioscia doesn't rest everyone, because we've got work to do. Texas must also be eliminated. We can do it!

By David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer At some point in our lives, we’ve all thought about what we would do if we won the lottery. Buy a house. Pay off some bills. Take a vacation for a month or two. A new car. New clothes. New toys. The list goes on and on. Where did charity fit into that list? Be honest: how many of you have thought about making difference in the world if you came into a sudden windfall of money? Now, imagine you have all the money your heart could desire, could a single child inspire you to donate tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of your time? That’s the story of the CJWCC. That stands for the C.J. Wilson’s Children…

If only Maxwell had hit a walk off the day before, we'd have had a full "LOOK AT THIS, HE'S DONE IT AGAIN!" Alas, we have to settle for a mere "Look at this!" Oh, memories.

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - SEPT. 22, 2002 GAME 156 - ANGELS AT MARINERS SEATTLE – The first 96 wins seemed to come so effortlessly. No. 97 has been a chore. Needing to win only one of the two games Saturday and Sunday against the Seattle Mariners to clinch their first playoff appearance in 16 seasons, the Angels lost both, including Sunday's 3-2 setback before a sellout crowd of 45,693 at Safeco Field. The Angels still have the opportunity to control their own destiny, going to Texas for a three-game series vs. the Rangers starting Tuesday. And if they can't get that one win, there's always the back door. The Mariners will play the red-hot …

Trout's OPS is now within .008 of Davis'. With the O's and Davis both slumping and in great danger of missing the post-season, Trout should now move ahead of Chris Davis into the 2nd spot. Plus the O's and surging Halos are now only separated by 7 games in the standings. Runner up should be the worst case scenario for Trout. Oh, and some guy name Cabrera has a 1.095 OPS for an almost certain post-season team, and is leading the AL in two of the three triple crown stats.

For the bulk of September, the Angels' offense has thrived, but as they lost, 3-2, to the Mariners on Sunday afternoon at Angel Stadium, the recent surge came to a screeching halt. The loss, just the Halos' eighth since Aug. 23, spoiled another strong performance by C.J. Wilson. View the full article

Huge games today for several teams in the hunt. Texas and Kansas City, no score in the 7th inning. Royals are barely hanging in at 3.5 games back. Texas is a half-game out of the 2nd WC. Cleveland is winning handily over Houston, 8-2. Indians look good. Yankees and Giants are tied at 1 through seven. Almost every game is a must-win for NY at this point. Baltimore is getting shut out by the Rays. Orioles need lots of things to go right.

I was scrolling through the team stats, as I'm wont to do every day or two, and came across a name: Daniel Stange. Daniel Stange? Oh yeah, Daniel Stange - I remember. I'm not saying he's the worst player to wear an Angels uniform this year (although he might be), but he's probably the most forgettable (I don't think players coming up with the roster expansion count - so no cigar for Efren Navarro, Scott Cousins, etc).

After clinching the American League West on Sunday, the A's can take a breath, but they're still out to win best record in the AL, and they begin that quest on Monday against the Angels in Anaheim. The Halos tab Garrett Richards, while Oakland will send A.J. Griffin to the hill. View the full article

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said it's too early to project what will happen next season and that Andrew Romine has to improve on certain aspects of his play at third base, but didn't rule out the possibility of Romine competing for an everyday job in 2014. View the full article

"The Angels, who beat the Oakland Athletics, 12-1, Monday night, had a scout in Japan last week to watch Masahiro Tanaka pitch, and they are considering a run at the undefeated Rakuten Eagles right-hander, whom scouts project as a No. 2 or No. 3 starter in the major leagues. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Tanaka, who features a 94-mph fastball, sharp slider and a superb split-fingered fastball, won't come cheap. If the Eagles, as expected, post Tanaka, it could cost a major league team $25 million or more just to obtain the rights to negotiate a deal with him. Tanaka, 24, could be worth it. Two scouts who have seen Tanaka pitch but are not authorized to speak publicly about hi…
