Mike DiGiovanna @MikeDiGiovanna32m #Angels at #Rangers: DH Shuck, SS Aybar, CF Trout, LF Hamilton, 2B Kendrick, RF Calhoun, 1B Trumbo, C Conger, 3B Romine, LHP Vargas. This is the Angels Super Bowl. If the Angels somehow win and if Tampa Bay wins, the Rangers won't make the playoffs.

This may seem obvious to most non-delusionals, but I'm just reiterating this because there's been alot of ''We are two or three pieces away from becoming contenders'' threads lately. Back to back to back seasons (2011 vs the Rangers, 2012 vs the Mariners, 2013 vs the Rangers) where we pretty much fail to show up in the final series of the season. This is on Scioscia. He's staying so things won't change.

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - SEPT. 29, 2002 GAME 162 - MARINERS AT ANGELS ANAHEIM – The Angels wrapped up the regular season with their club-record 99th win of the season, a 7-6 decision over the Seattle Mariners before 42,878 at Edison Field. The Angels scored five in the first inning, fueled by a grand slam from Troy Glaus, his 30th home run of the season to go with 111 RBIs. Brad Fullmer also homered for the Angels, who will open the playoffs Oct. 1 against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Angels starter Aaron Sele, working his way back from a shoulder injury but who not will be on the postseason roster, gave up two runs and three hits in 4 1…

So excited! This game is my "wild card one game playoff". Ruining their chance to be in the post season would be awesome. Yes it's petty, I know...but o well!

This inning is the epitome of this Angels season: Pitcher walks a batter after being a ahead in the count, error opens doors for opponent, and opponent cashes in. This season can't be over fast enough.

Through 8 against the Tigers. but he plays for the Marlins, so of course it's still 0-0

The regular-season finale has come, and very little has changed about Angels left fielder J.B. Shuck. He hasn't fallen off, and he's still a legit candidate for the American League Rookie of the Year Award. View the full article

In case you're wondering and too lazy to figure it out, the Angels will get the 14th overall pick in the 2014 draft, which is not protected as it isn't in the top 10. #14 is a pretty good pick. In a deep draft you can still get an excellent pick, and sometimes top 10 or even top 5 players who are deemed difficult to sign fall that far. I think its reasonably important for the Angels to not lose this pick by signing a free agent receiving a qualifying offer. Stick to Tanaka and trades.

I can't decide whether this mini meltdown against the Rangers to end the season is a bad thing or a small blessing On the one hand, is sucks that after playing solid ball for better than a month they crap the bed when they have an opportunity to stick it to the team that is likely their biggest division rival. Doing so by playing poor fundamental baseball. It could have been a nice little building block for next year to finish the season solidly. On the other hand, seeing the downside of what this team is capable could be a good little reminder that they still have a ways to go before they can consistently perform at the level of a potential playoff contender. …

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - SEPT. 28, 2002 GAME 161 - MARINERS AT ANGELS ANAHEIM – The Angels warmed up their bats for the playoffs with a 14-hit performance against the Seattle Mariners on their way to an 8-4 win before 43,202 at Edison Field. The Angels did nearly all their damage in the sixth inning when they scored seven runs to put the game out of reach. The Angels got plenty of offense from non-starters – including two hits each from Alfredo Amezaga, Orlando Palmeiro and Alex Ochoa. Brad Fullmer also had two hits. Mickey Callaway went eight innings, giving up three runs and eight hits, to get the win and improve to 2-1. Troy Percival g…
