Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto will spend a vast majority of this offseason talking to teams about ways to acquire starting pitching via trade, probably by offering offensive assets. View the full article

.....2013 will be history in 50 minutes, and the page will be turned. Boston will become last season's champs. All teams will be 0-0 in wins and losses. No one will give a crap about the 2013 season except a bunch of drunken Boston fans who will want to wallow in the past, and we will all be embracing the challenge of the 2014 season.

Make no mistake: The Angels' shortcomings in 2013 revolved around pitching. But that does little to hide the fact that their highest-paid players, Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols, have yet to live up to expectations -- albeit for vastly different reasons. View the full article

If the Angels are below average next year, then it is time to go into more of an aggressive reload. As long as we have Hamilton and Pujols we will not rebuild, it is nearly impossible. I think we have one guy that can bring in a ton of talent assuming we are willing to trade him at the deadline. That guy is CJ Wilson. I know we need starting pitching more than we need anything else so it may sound backwards, but if he pitches next year like he did this year, he can land us that future ace and probably another prospect or two. He can only block trades to 8 teams in 2014, so moving him is certainly a possibility. Face it the Angels won't trade Weaver, nor should the…

I'm a mess, crying my eyes out tonight. Did you hear this is Tim McCarver's last game? I don't know how to live without Timmy's great insight from the broadcast booth. Nobody knows baseball like Timmy. I mean, how will I ever know what a fastball looks like again? When will MLB set up their grief support hotline??????? I hope the Mexican market down the street has Kleenex because I'm all out...

Prior to the start of this series I had rekindled my hatred of the Red Sox, which had quieted down a bit since the 09 playoffs. However, their whole dumb beard thing was like gasoline on my angry embers, and it annoyed me on several levels - one, it was a ripoff from every team that has done it before; two, it made the Sox even more unlikable; and three...because **** the Red Sox. Then along came the utter pretentiousness of "The Cardinal Way" and the smug, assumed superiority of their fans. Plus, they can continue to gloat for the next eight years about not having Pujols on their team, but it's mostly the former. Now, I found myself in the position of hoping bot…

As we all know the Angels only have two reliable starting pitchers signed for next season, Weaver and Wilson. We also have Richards who I'm sure most of us would settle for him as the fifth starter if that what has to happen. Looking at the free agent class for Starting Pitchers there's not too much there. Assuming we can't get Tanaka we will have to trade for a starter. I honestly think the best place to go would be St. Louis and see if they have any interest in either Peter or Aybar. They have a great young staff that might allow them to trade Lance Lynn. I don't think they will give up Wacha, Miller or Martinez. Even after we trade for a starter we still need to…

There may not be much more hand-wringing over Taylor Lindsey's hands. Lindsey, the Arkansas Travelers second baseman and No. 4 Angels prospect, made some tweaks to his somewhat unorthodox batting stance -- mostly involving where he positions his hands at the start of his stance -- and he's responded with some career power numbers during his first taste of Double-A. The 37th overall pick in the 2010 Draft, Lindsey is batting .278 and already has 13 home runs after going deep nine times in each of his past two seasons. "I got stronger this year," said the 21-year-old. "I'm just hitting the ball harder. But that's baseball -- sometimes the ball flies, sometimes it won'…

By Zach Links [October 23 at 9:15pm CST] The Angels came into this season with extremely high hopes but they stumbled badly out of the gate - dropping 27 of their first 42 games - and never recovered. This season, owner Arte Moreno wants to get his money's worth. Guaranteed Contracts Albert Pujols, 1B: $212MM through 2021 Josh Hamilton, OF: $90MM through 2017 C.J. Wilson, SP: $54MM through 2016 Jered Weaver, SP: $54MM through 2016 Erick Aybar, SS: $25.5MM through 2016 Howie Kendrick, 2B: $18.85MM through 2015 Chris Iannetta, C: $10.5MM through 2015 Joe Blanton, SP: $7.5MM through 2014 Sean Burnett, RP: $3.75MM through 2014 Arbitration Eligibles (service ti…

MLBTR just posted a free agent profile on Santana and I was surprised to see that Keith Law prefers Santana over Garza and MLBTR thinks Santana will sign for 5 years and 75 million. Even if the Angels aren't able to sign Tanaka, I don't think the Angels would consider re-signing Santana and I don't want them to re-sign him. Garza scares me because of some recent injuries and he's never really had a very good season. Free Agent Profile: Ervin Santana By Steve Adams [October 26 at 2:46pm CST] It's been an eventful 12 months for Ervin Santana. It seems hard to believe that just a year ago, Royals GM Dayton Moore's decision to acquire Santana and $1MM for minor leaguerBr…

I'm having an argument with a friend and I would love some help in who is right. We are trying to decide who has the advantage when it comes to the DH and how it plays in the World Series. One of us thinks the AL has the advantage because they pay someone like Ortiz to be their DH and a National League team has to use some bench player. The other thinks the NL has the advantage because the AL loses a bat they're used to having all year, meanwhile the National League team is already set up to deal with it. I'll let my side be known after I hear a few points from you guys
