Chuck Richter spoke with newly acquired LHP pitching prospect Samuel Aldegheri during his annual visit down to Madison, AL.

The Angels acquired Samuel Aldegheri (and George Klassen) in a deal that sent Carlos Estevez to the Phillies ahead of the trade deadline this season. The southpaw starting pitcher who has compiled a 3.52 ERA, .217 BAA across 199 2/3 minor league innings could be the first Italian-born pitcher to make it to the big leagues since Marino Pieretti, who appeared in 194 games with Washington, Chicago (AL) and Cleveland.

Prospect evaluators feel Aldegheri who appeared to have the back-of-the-rotation arm tag now feel he could be a solid middle of the rotation arm in the big leagues. Equipped with a four-pitch mix and a fastball that he works in the low 90's, touching 95, Aldegheri's slider, curve and improved changeup, Aldegheri has punched out 113 batters across 82 2/3 innings this season along with a .191 batting average against.

Below are some of Aldegheri's performances this season. He struck out 10 batters in a start three times this season, including nine twice.
