Yup. Very stupid. Not even Johan Santana brought in a haul like that, and he was much, much younger at the time(going on 29 years old while Halladay is going on 33) and probably better than Halladay Edited by bloodbrother 2009-12-10 6:59 PM

![]() Hall of Famer Posts: 29182 Location: AngelsWin.com: Where Angels Fans Are @ | None of the players the Twins got back for Johan Santana were impact type players or high end prospects. The key player "Carlos Gomez" was a bust for the Twins thus far. If the Blue Jays turned down Aybar, Saunders and Bourjos, I would say we're done and move one. Sign Lackey and continue to shape the roster going forward with smaller deals.

Yeah I knew Carlos Gomez was the main piece, went back to check the rest and holy crap... Twins are left with absolutely nothing from that deal. Saunders/Aybar/Bourjos blows that Mets offer out of the water Jays are being ridiculous with their demands and it will only bite them in the end, similar to what Bowden did with Alphonso Soriano in Washington where he ended up not even trading him because he asked for too much. Jays are looking to be going that same route at this rate. I hope the Angels don't even bother with trying for Halladay from here on out, and by their track record they won't. They made a legit offer, Jays apparently want more. Time to move on. Edited by bloodbrother 2009-12-10 7:06 PM

![]() All-Star Posts: 4809 | sorry just got home to my pc... mason and ireland opened with dodger talk blah blah....shifted attention towards the halos and roy halladay, and basically said the jays had turned down the offer and are hoping to get that same 5 player offer they had gotten last year at the deadline from boston or philly i believe it was. Mason and ireland were very shocked as was gammons(who is high on aybar). He also said something like there are people in the jays management are comfortable with letting halladay walk at the end of the year and letting the fans know they tried re-signing him but HE chose to leave and getting 2 picks in the process. Ha. Two picks or two young solid major league ready players in Saunders and Aybar, plus Bourjos who could play CF for the Jays NOW and run circles around Vernon Wells. That package is much better than two 1st round gambles.

All-Star Posts: 2152 | st1ckboy - 12/10/2009 8:08 PM Reagins said the Blue Jays have targeted Saunders, Bourjos and Mike Napoli. This is a misquote. In the original LA Times article Reagins doesn't "say" this. It's just a statement wedged in between two quotes by Reagins. Not sure what DiGiovanna was trying to do, but here's the uninterpreted quote from the article: When asked about the rumor Thursday, Reagins chuckled. "I have no reaction," he said. "There are a lot of rumors in this environment, a lot of things that get thrown around. It's up to someone else to decipher them, not me." The Blue Jays have targeted Saunders, catcher Mike Napoli and Bourjos, among others. Reagins said it's "possible" a deal for Halladay could be expanded to include other Blue Jays coming to Anaheim. "We've talked about a lot of things," Reagins said of his discussions with Toronto. "They have a lot of pieces that are attractive."

Hall of Fame Posts: 13256 Location: Hailing from Parts Unknown | A couple things... 1. Peter Gammons hasn't been right about anything for years. 2. It's possible the Blue Jays turned the deal down because they want minor leaguers and not major leaguers. Which makes sense.. If you deal Halladay you want players for 6 years not 3 (like Saunder, Aybar & Napoli would be)

What I can't figure out is who the heck the other Toronto player is that could be in the discussion. Could it be a RP?

So (surprise!) I guess it's all about who or what you choose to believe. I think I've learned enough from Hot Stoves past that you just have to "wait and see". Otherwise, you end up on the yo-yo. Big League Angels Posts: 1020 | 3) How long is Halladay willing to play for the Angels, if at all? We mentioned a Tweet from Will Carroll (of Baseball Prospectus) last week. Said Carroll: "Halladay to Angels? Nope. Told that thing about training in Florida is still 'absolute.' " The Angels, of course, train in Arizona, as do the Dodgers, who have also been loosely connected to a potential Halladay deal. 4) We can't help but wonder if a potential trade to the Angels is why Halladay's agent, when asked if an extension would be required for his client to waive his no-trade clause, keeps insisting that decision will be made "on a case-by-case basis." Perhaps Halladay, if no better options present themselves, would be willing to accept a deal to the Angels, but only to play out the final year of his contract (ie. No extension), and then become a free agent and find a team that fits all of his preferences. If that is indeed the case, and Halladay refuses to consider an extension that would keep him in L.A., you have to wonder if the Angels would be willing to give up as much, or even close to as much, in a deal when they are only getting a one-year rental. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/306607-is-roy-halladay-this-year...
