Hall of Fame Posts: 13321 Location: Moreno Valley/Anaheim | ANAHEIM -- The Angels have decided to go down to 11 pitchers for the time being, bringing up Kendry Morales for the first time this season from Triple-A Salt Lake. In the corresponding move, reliever Jason Bulger was optioned to Salt Lake. He pitched an inning of relief on Sunday against the Mariners, striking out one batter while not allowing a hit. "Right now, we have the day off so we're going down to 11 pitchers, which will give us more depth on the bench," said Angels manager Mike Scioscia. "We have some guys banged up. [Torri Hunter is] not 100 percent. It will be good to get a little depth on the bench and we'll move forward from there." After the off-day on Monday, the Angels will open up a three-game set with the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The switch-hitting Morales brings a versatile bat to the Angels, hitting .294 in 43 games with the Halos in 2007 with a slugging percentage of .479. He had four home runs and 15 RBIs last season. With the Bees this season, Morales was hitting .279 in 15 games through Saturday, including three doubles and a home run with 15 RBIs. For the Angels, he'll play first base and also a little outfield, if needed. Amanda Branam is a contributor to MLB.com. | Uh. Why are we bringing up Morales if we wanted him to get more ABs at AAA? He's just going to rot on the bench here. I don't get this move.

| Makes no sense. Wasn't the biggest reason we wanted Morales at AAA because he wouldn't get any ABs here? Which happened to be why Quinlan is still on this team? Now we bring him up when we know he won't get any ABs?? Unless Quinlan gets released soon, this makes zero sense. We could use someone else to rot on the bench, why Morales? | |||

That's what I thought. Matt Brown at 3rd base and Figgins at 2nd base. Get that damn Izturis out of the lineup hes a rally killer. Brown whos batting well over .400 with 5 dingers and 17 RBI. Why didn't he come up! Thats the big question right now. Scioscia knows damn well he can slide Figgins over to 2nd base and start a true power hitter at 3rd base. Seems like the most logical move to the fans but be damned Mike Scioscia will be if we even considered that. Edited by Halocory22 2008-04-21 12:53 AM

It'd be nice to see Rivera get some consistant ABs also, but heres to dreaming.

Hall of Fame Posts: 7465 Location: Perth, Western Australia | Halocory22 - 4/21/2008 12:50 AM Bloody hell. A player has two bad weeks and we need to get him out of the lineup because he is a rally killer? Fark. Now, Matt Brown is not a true power hitter. That is a ridiculous statement. He is a nice hitter who could do a decent job for us at the big league level, but he isn't even close to being good enough to be considered an everyday player. That is a hell of a long way from the most logical move in the eyes of the fans, so I'm pretty glad MS isn't going to consider it. If we were going to call up everyone who has two good weeks in AAA and send down everyone who has two bad weeks here we may as well tell players to rent appartments in Anaheim and Salt Lake because they're going to be up and down like there is no tomorrow. And Figgy is finally showing consistent defense, lets not screw it up by moving him around. Morales will get a chance, just like he got a chance when he came up last year. Brown is more likely to contribute now than Rodriguez is.
