All-Star Posts: 4851 | Booing Lackey was classless. I want to chalk it up to novice fans that followed the lead of some a-holes wearing red who have no clue what Lackey means to the Halo org, but I am having a hard time doing it.

I want to chalk it up to novice fans that followed the lead of some a-holes wearing red who have no clue what Lackey means to the Halo org, but I am having a hard time doing it. Me too. Kinda sad really. For some reason, I was listening to Angel Talk in my car tonight and a caller actually brought up a really good point. He thought that because of the 3$ ticket promotion a lot of people who weren't Angels' fans or even baseball fans showed up to the game. It was these "fans" who know little about baseball or the Angels who were doing most of the booing.

All-Star Posts: 4851 | The booing was done by more than the $3 seat sections, though I'm sure that area was as bad as any. I was in the MVP View area and asked a guy, "why the booing?" He looked away and then booed more after Lackey gave up a couple more hits. Others joined him. Sad.

Honestly, I give those fans more credit and don't believe they would boo their ace pitching hero off the mound after a great season. Right before the playoffs, nonetheless. Pavilion and upper deck Dodger fans, another story. Edited by skills 9/27/2008 1:46 AM

| People pay to go to the games. They can boo all they want. Personally I wouldn't do it, but I'm not upset at others who do. | |||

| To be fair, it was a horrible performance. Watching the game it seemed more like the booing was for MS leaving him in so long. | |||

Big League Angels Posts: 1456 Location: Monrovia, CA | If I was at the game, I'd boo the Angels pathetic attempt to try and get back in the game. The boos at Lackey were definitely unnecessary. I mean, we didn't even boo freaking Speier or Santana (last year). But I'm sure Lackey isn't going to take it to heart, he doesn't seem to be that kind of guy. :) We're in good hands.

All-Star Posts: 4851 | Brandon - 9/27/2008 1:58 AM Watching the game it seemed more like the booing was for MS leaving him in so long. I disagree. The booing was aimed at Lackey. Later on the booing started creeping towards Sosh for not pulling him. How can lackey be pulled in the second inning when no one is warming up? The seven runs came in a hurry. Plus Lackey likely needs to get a minimum amount of work in before his next start.

All-Star Posts: 2643 Location: Huntington Beach | This is what happens when the expectations of your team rise so high with above average play over the last 6 years. The fans expect a competitive game and a win. If the Angels are getting blown out, they will voice their displeasure. Remember this, they aren't booing Lackey as a person, but rather Lackey's performance.

I'm pretty damn positive that Ervin got booed last year. Matthews was being booed this season. It happens.

Or the A's, or the Rangers in the home opener? xboom28x - 9/27/2008 2:14 AM Remember this, they aren't booing Lackey as a person, but rather Lackey's performance. ?

After continuous poor performances. Not one bad game. I was going to say the same thing. Anyway, I think I would have less of a problem with it, if fans didn't need to see "Make Some Noise" on the jumbo-tron to actually cheer for their team. At BoSox, Yankees, and other teams' games fans stand up and cheer at key points in the game. Whereas during key moments at Angels' Stadium the fans are talking on cell phones and doing the wave. I mean, if you are going to make an effort to boo one of your best players for one bad outing, at least get behind your team the rest of the time.

I'm not saying Angel fans should have been cheering....but the booing and name-calling directed at a franchise player who came up through the system was way over the top. Why would a player want to stay here if Angel fans turn into Phillies fans? They can get paid more elsewhere and get treated better. Wonder what Teixeira was thinking....

Wonder what Teixeira was thinking....Great point..Our Ace pitcher, who will be starting the first game of the playoffs, had a horrible night...you know, the pitcher who freaking won game 7 of the WS in '02....DOES NOT DESERVED TO BE BOO'D PERIOD. Some guy in my section stood up and yelled "F you Lackey"....I said it right back at him...nobody boo'd the offense who couldn't score a run....bandwagon fans

As much as I vent, booing him was classless. There's a time to boo, and a time to just allow someone who's meant a lot to the franchise to quietly walk to the dugout.

I hated to see it happening, but chalked it up as a ST type game, just getting the work in. Just hope he isn't hiding an injury, and that he was just concerned with getting his pitches in to stay in rhythm for Wednesday. He did even say in the OCR article that he was a bit unsure of when he would be pulled for precautionary purposes when the game started, and that might have mentally affected his pitching.

Hall of Fame Posts: 7116 | "if the shoe fits ... then wear it" I don't condone booing our own player's and get irritated when fans do. Lackey needs to take this as a 'wake up call' because Beckett is going into the playoffs on a roll. Shake it off Big John ... and let's kick some Red Sox butt!
